Special Post: Join the Third Writers’ Platform-Building Campaign!

August 30, 2011 by admin

This one is for my writing buddies out there in the blogosphere. Aren’t we all looking to build our audience, whether it’s to market our fiction or just find readers for all that hard word we do as writers? Here’s an opportunity for writers and bloggers to help each other.

Visit Rachel Harrie , author and blogger, to find out the details! But hurry, August 31 is the deadline.

Blog Discovery Thursday: Baby Boomer Cafe

August 25, 2011 by admin

I fell asleep to the sound of thunder, a rare sound these days in Houston. Our high temperatures have hit at least 100 degrees every day in August with no end in sight. I stepped outside this morning to find the ground somewhat moist–the thunder did not portend a storm for our area. Still, I’ll take whatever relief I can get.

Today I am rewriting the first scene of my upcoming novel, Change of Plans, and will then send it back to my editor for review. While I’m working on that, I’ll share with you a blog that looks really great. Thanks to my hubby for finding it for me!

The Boomer Cafe has been around for twelve years and features writings by Boomers and for Boomers who want to maintain an active lifestyle. From humor to finances, Boomers can find plenty to read about. Plus, you’ll enjoy the comments that readers share. It’s a lot of fun! Check it out when you get the chance.

Thursday Blog Recommendation: National Association of Baby Boomer Women (NABBW)

August 18, 2011 by admin

Good morning, everyone!

I love Thursdays, because I get to share other websites that both inform and entertain, providing you, the reader, with much more content than I could provide alone. In recent weeks as I have revamped this blog, I have found genuine pleasure in finding resources to share. We Boomer women are forming a remarkable presence on the World Wide Web, with plenty of thoughtful insights and fine writing.

Today’s website is a real goodie! It’s the National Association of Baby Boomer Women. Here you’ll find a gathering place for articles of interest on women’s health, finances, humor, and more. the NABBW provides a staggering amount of information in an accessible format.

If you want to join the NABBW, you will pay $75, though there are ways to get discounts on that fee. However, I am currently at the “free” membership level, which allows me access to a wide range of information. So, you’ll have an opportunity to check it out before forking over any money.

Enjoy! I’ll be back Monday with more news and musings.

Thursday Blog Recommendation Day: GypsyNester

August 11, 2011 by admin

Last week when we were returning home from San Juan Island, I said to my husband, “Maybe we should just sell the house and be gypsies.” We love to travel and do so as much as possible. If it weren’t for my garden, which always brings me home, life on the road sounds like great fun.

Well, it would appear that David and Veronica have embraced this very idea! They have turned empty nesting into an art form, recognizing that life after kids can be fun. In the next couple of weeks we’ll discuss that more in the Wednesday feature posts, but the Gypsy Nester website shows how dynamic and interesting midlife can be, so it’s a great prelude to what’s coming here at A Woman’s Nest.

From travel narratives to reflections on midlife issues (such as, how do you define midlife?), David and Veronica have saved me a lot of time and energy by blogging about topics that I would have eventually gotten to. They even have a “Shop” page with plenty of fun items for those ready to celebrate life after kids.

Visit GypsyNester at: www.gypsynester.com. Enjoy!

Check Out the Old G.A.L. Project

August 4, 2011 by admin

We are leaving our Seattle-area vacation for hot, hot Houston today. Our final stop on this tour was a visit to San Juan Island, where we see deer every morning on the B&B property. We have also sighted Orcas, eagles, harbor seals, foxes, and more. In the fresh air and sunshine, I have gotten some much-needed rest, allowing new creative ideas to emerge.

In the meantime, as I expand my Twitterverse, I have run across a number of blogs that touch on many of the topics that I will, but in different ways. I thought Thursday would be a good day to share those with my readers.

One that I have read recently is the Old G.A.L. Project (as in Get A Life). Our blogger has retired and is looking for life after the job. She’s looking for love, seeking her passion in life, and trying to lose weight–subjects we can all relate to. Some posts are funny, while others are touching. I’m going to follow her journey, and I invite you to do it, too.
